Eligibility for INIFD Fashion Designing Courses

 In today’s blog, we will talk about the eligibility criteria for fashion designing courses and the process of getting admitted to various courses in Fashion Designing, available to students after clearing their HSC examinations. Most of the renowned fashion designing institutes in India, and especially in Pune, have the basic requirement that the students seeking admission to courses in fashion designing have passed their Higher Secondary Certificate examination with a minimum aggregate of 50% of marks. Apart from this basic requirement, most institutes either require students to clear one of the national level entrance examinations or their own entrance examinations.


Some of the common entrance examinations and their structure are elucidated below.

1. Design Aptitude Test (DAT):

DAT is conducted in two rounds. The first round consists of the prelims, which are followed by the mains. National Institute of Design (NID) requires students to clear DAT for admission to their courses. Many renowned fashion designing institutes require students to clear this examination for admission to their diploma courses as well.

2. All India Entrance Examination for Design (AIEED) :

This entrance examination is conducted by the ARCH Academy for Design. For undergraduate-level courses, AIEED is conducted in three rounds, the first one being the General Aptitude Test or GAT, followed by the Creative Aptitude Test or CAT, and lastly, video interaction through Skype for introducing yourself.

3. National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFT) Entrance Examination :

Students seeking admission to courses at the NIFT need to clear the written entrance examination first, which is followed by a situation test, group discussions or a personal interview round.

4. Army Institute of Fashion Designing (AIFD) Entrance Test :

AIFD conducts a Written Admission Test or (WAT) for admission to the undergraduate course of BSc in Fashion Design and a Creative Aptitude Test or CAT, followed by a personal interview. The aspirants need to be the children of eligible serving or ex-Army personnel or wards of war or army widows.

5. School of Fashion Technology (SOFT) Pune Entrance Test :

The Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by SOFT, Pune consists of an online test, followed by a studio test or a group discussion and finally, a personal interview. All three tests are mandatory for students to get admitted in SOFT. All students who have an HSC degree or an SSC degree with a two years diploma in technical education are eligible for this test.

6. Indian Institute of Art and Design (AIID) Entrance Test :

IIAD conducts an entrance examination, which takes place in two rounds. The first round is the IIAD Design Aptitude Test (iDAT), followed by a comprehensive interview and the assessment of the portfolio before an institute panel.
